Sequel played more for laughs

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2  ★★½

THE sequel to Polish horror/slasher Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight veers more towards comedy.

The first film, released in 2020, was an effective gorefest that deviated enough from the formula to make it better than average.

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2 (2021) takes up the story immediately from the end of the last film.

Police arrived at a derelict home to find a scene of carnage caused mainly by two deformed twin brothers.

The brothers are being held at the local station while the authorities try to sort out what has occurred and who is responsible. Bu also mistakenly arrested and sitting in the next cell is our heroine from the first film – Zosia, again played by Julia Wieniawa-Narkiewicz.

The film actually starts with a bizarre prologue that turns out to be a dream had by new central character Adam (Mateusz Wieclawek), a local rookie cop keen to impress but not really keen on the physical side of the job. Consequently he isn’t rated by his boss or fellow officers.

Just in case you’re keen to watch both films I won’t reveal certain plot points that end up pushing the film to more of a comic tone, as often happens with horror sequels.

In this case it results in some ridiculous moments that take you right out of the film before it regroups for a fairly decent ending. The gore quotient is again pretty high.

If you’re looking for something different in slasher films, give these two a try.
