Origin of an evil clown

All Hallow’s Eve ★★½

A WARNING to caulrophobics – stay well clear of Damien Leone.

The American writer/director is the creator of Art the Clown who is about to wreak havoc in a fourth film.

Art first appeared in short films in 2008 and 2011 before a feature-length treatment in Leone’s 2013 debut All Hallows Eve.

But the character really took off with horror fans after 2016’s Terrified and achieved cult status with the 2022 sequel.

In All Hallows’ Eve, set on Halloween night, two children and their babysitter discover an unmarked videotape featuring several short films all featuring an evil clown.

The babysitter, Sarah, is so disturbed by the first film that she sends Tia and Timmy immediately to bed. But her fascination gets the better of her and she continues watching the tape by herself.

The pick of the three segments is the second one, mainly because it has a different, almost grindhouse, look.

Katie Maguire is decent as Sarah but the rest of the acting is a little uneven.

Leone’s film craft has definitely got progressively better.

Art will be back later this year for Terrified 3, in the trailer for which he butchers a boy who is excitedly waiting for Santa to arrive.

Merry Christmas!
