Not much to be AfrAID of

AfrAId ★★½

BE prepared for a growing number of horror films using the premise of a threat from Artificial Intelligence.

The sequel to M3GAN is on the way and another entry, Subservience, is also out now, along with AfrAId from Blumhouse.

Korean actor John Cho continues his interest in horror roles ( The Grudge, Searching, The Exorcist television series) playing the father of a family that tests out a new and improved version of Siri.

Initially the new AI system is a godsend, particularly in helping look after the kids and saving money by reorganising the household budget.

Then two events occur in which the AI intervenes to help diagnose a medical condition and deal with the distribution of a video, making its interjection in their lives seem almost necessary.

But then, as you would expect, things change for the worse…

It’s familiar stuff but executed reasonably well. It’s nowhere near as much fun as something like M3GAN, but it’s better than average.

Watched at the cinema.
