Super Pets for Super Heroes

DC League of Super Pets  ★★★

COMBINING super-heroes with lovable pets seems like a children’s film match made in heaven.

And the computer-animated DC League of Super-Pets is mostly just that.

The visuals and very crisp and there is always something interesting happening on the screen.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart lead a good voice cast and there are quite a few laugh-out-loud moments for kids and adults alike.

The film has a strong first half, particularly all the introductions to the main characters, and I enjoyed the extended epilogue with the pets being matched with their super-hero owners.

A few negatives though.

Firstly the film overall at 100 minutes is too long for the youngest of its target audience.

My three-year-old grandson just managed to get to the end, with the help of several snacks.

The length is padded by a climax that has three similar endings and occasionally the dialogue and some of the jokes are not as discernible as they should always be in an animated film.

Those problems aside, it’s still a lot of fun and I particularly loved Hart’s Bat Hound.
