3. The Shining. Stephen King hated Kubrick’s version but everyone else loved it.
4. Ordinary People. A blistering drama that won the Academy Award for Best Film.
5. Cruising. Pacino and exorcist director William Friedkin in a fascinating and controversial collaboration.
6. Dressed to Kill. High-grade schlock from De Palma.
7. The Elephant Man. Featuring a stunningly moving performance from the late John Hurt.
8. The Long Good Friday. The British gangster movie that introduced us to Bob Hoskins.
9. The Blues Brothers. The action/musical/comedy popular classic.
10. The Candidate. Robert Redford demonstrates why he’s considered not just a pretty face.
