Jackass may be forever

Jackass Forever (and Jackass 4.5) ★★

I KNOW what you are going to say.

Even you’ve seen one Jackass film you’ve seen them all.

That’s true to an extent, but Jackass Forever, the latest 2022 instalment in the reality comedy franchise, is appearing 12 years after the last film.

It has an element of nostalgia for these crazy middle-aged men who are still acting like they are teenagers, running around with their dicks out performing stupid, dangerous stunts just for the hell of it.

Ringmaster Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Dave England, Wee Man, Danger Ehren, Chris Pontius and Preston Lacy are joined by several young recruits in an attempt to refresh the cast and point to a new generation.

While only a couple of the recruits shine during their moments, that’s mainly due to the focus on bringing the fan favourites all back together and showing they haven’t really changed a great deal.

Steve-O is still throwing up on cue and Knoxville repeats his truly dangerous stunts of being fired out of a cannon and thrown through the air by a raging bull.

There’s nothing particularly interesting in the visuals, but the complementary behind-the-scenes Jackass 4.5 provides more detail on the elaborate set-ups, including transforming Chris Pontius’ penis into a Godzilla-like monster terrorising a city, and quite a bit of entertaining footage not used in the main film.

If you like the series and the people involved on-screen, you will enjoy this reunion of sorts.
