THERE isn’t much to the 2015 French actioner The Sweeney: Paris.
Also known as The Squad or Antigang, the English title obviously trades upon the following for the old British crime series The Sweeney with John Thaw and Dennis Waterman.
The Gallic version also has plenty of action with ‘motors’, baseball bats and fists, but it lacks character.
Apart from Jean Reno as the boss of a police squad that bends the rules, the rest of the cast don’t register.
The tone of the film is also very uneven, lurching at times from broad humour straight to tragedy.
There are plenty of better French action films.
