YOU could probably count on two hands the number of Senegalese supernatural thrillers.
But if all of them are as interesting as Saloum then they are worth diving into.
This is Congolese writer/director Jean Luc Herbulo’s second feature and he is obviously a Tarantino disciple.
The idiosyncratic American’s visual flair and time-shifting story-telling approach is writ large in the tale of four mercenaries who double-cross their drug running employer and find themselves taking refuge in a mysterious resort.
It’s well acted and the visuals are interesting throughout, but the nature of a certain threat is a little lame and doesn’t create a high level of tension.
