MOVIES these days don’t come much more entertaining than the Bollywood epic RRR.
Part historical drama, action, comedy and musical, RRR is flat-out fun for its entire three hours.
It centers around fictional versions of two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju, played by Ram Charan, and Komaram Bheem (N.T. Rama Rao Jr).
The real men were key figures in the 1920s rebellion against the British Raj but never met.
S.S.Rajamouli’s film answers the question ’What if they did meet and became friends and a united, unstoppable force?’
Filmed across India, RRR is the country’s most expensive film to date and every dollar is captured on-screen.
Vibrant colours, constant camera movement and clever performances match the overall pace and energy of the film.
The leads are great action heroes and have wonderful chemistry while Ray Stevenson as British Governor Scott Buxton and Alison Doody as his wife Catherine couldn’t be more evil.
Among the highlights are one man wading and beating his way through a crowd of thousands to effect an arrest, a train fire on a bridge leading to a high-flying rescue, evading a tiger chase, wild animals unleashed during a garden reception and the climactic forest fight.
And of course there are the impressively mounted musical numbers including the wonderful ‘crazy dance’ featuring out two heroes.
If you love big spectacular film-making RRR fits the bill 100%.
