Mamoa revs up Fast franchise

Fast X  ★★½

NEVER thought I would write this but here goes…thank God for Jason Mamoa.

While his performance in Fast X is uneven and downright odd at times, it’s still the best thing about the 10th instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise.

Fast X mostly spins its wheels in terms of story and character advancement, but Mamoa at least injects something fresh and entertaining with his villain intent on bringing down cc’d family once and for all.

Initially his character looks like being just big and brash, but as the film progresses he becomes more and more camp, to the point where he even prances around with his locks in pigtails while orchestrating death and destruction.

He keeps you entertained while the rest of the film just seems to be retreading familiar ground.

As usual there are some amazingly over-the-top action sequences, including a wrecking ball bomb careering through the streets of Rome.

But the rest of the franchise’s characters really don’t have a lot to do, which is odd considering all the hype of this being the first of a two-film finale.
