Influencer ★★★

AS YOU flick through the mountain of material available on your film streaming services it’s hard to know where to start.

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and pin the tail to the donkey, as it were.

One of my last ‘blind’ stops, that didn’t end up being a total waste of time, was a 2022 low-budget horror film called Influencer, directed by young Canadian Kurtis David Harder.

We all know so-called influencers are annoying right? But would that lead you to start killing them off?

This is kind of the premise for the film, but there is a little more to it than that, including commentary on our obsessions with physical beauty and financial gain.

For much of the running time Influencer is more of a mystery-thriller, but the blood and gore are upped enough in the final act to just qualify for horror inclusion.

The cast is quite good, particularly Emily Tennant in the lead role, and there are some nice locations well-used.
