Champions ★★★

WOODY Harrelson is perfectly cast in the 2023 American comedy Champions.

It’s a remake of a 2018 Spanish film about a temperamental minor-league basketball coach who learns about himself through having to coach a group of young people with intellectual disabilities.

Yes, I know, talk about cliched. But director Bobby Farrelly, best known for There’s Something About Mary, and his writer Mark Rizzo, ignore some of the most expected and obvious tropes to create mostly believable dialogue and a bunch of characters audiences will care about.

It’s not rocket science; just an entertaining and uplifting couple of hours with its heart in the right place. What’s not to like about that?
