IN 2020 a vicious little movie called Becky garnered attention.
It was a home invasion horror in which an inventive teenage girl with a mean streak fought against a bunch of neo-Nazis intent on finding something at her family’s holiday house in a forest.
It was nicely made and acted, particularly by Lulu Wilson in the lead role.
Unfortunately, something has gone awry with the sequel, The Wrath of Becky (2023), in which the new director seems to have gone for a lighter, Kick-ass style approach.
It’s clear they are trying to build a character for a franchise but have pushed things too far too quickly with Becky becoming more of a comic-book hero.
That’s fine for some but I’m out, although I did enjoy the turn from Sean William Scott as the head villain.
