Sparke on right path

Bring Him to Me ★★½

AUSTRALIAN director Luke Sparke is heading in the right direction.

His fifth film, crime drama Bring Him to Me, is probably his most accomplished to date, based on my viewing of two previous efforts and other critic responses.

It managed to snare American actor Barry Pepper for the lead role so will have a semi-recognisable face for the cover of its American streaming release, along with Australia’s Sam Neill and Rachel Griffiths.

Pepper is decent as a getaway driver who is forced by his gang boss employer to bring a younger man to her.

The man has been involved in the robbery and beating of another gang boss and doesn’t realise the trouble he is in.

It’s a fairly slow and moody piece, but the Brisbane locations are well used and there are some decent moments of violence.

Neill outdoes Griffith in the competition for who can play the best villain.
