MANY debut horror films are based on a short film previously made by the same writer/director.
One of the latest in this vein is Alberto Corredor’s Baghead, a feature length expansion of his 2017 short film.
The cast, which includes veterans Peter Mullan and Ned Dennehy, is fine and there are some good technical elements.
But the film doesn’t have much impact overall with very few scares.
It tells the story of a publican, played by Mullan, who discovers a shape-shifter that takes the form of a witch behind a wall in the cellar.
The witch is able to summon a deceased person at will and, of course, the publican makes money from people wanting to connect for just a couple of minutes with their late loved one.
This sounds much more interesting then it actually is, but the final act contains a couple of twists that life the film just above average.
