Madame Webb isn’t awful

Madame Webb ★★½

I’M going to say it…Madame Web isn’t that bad.

Yes, if you’re an MCU enthusiast or comic book film fan, this movie will be pretty forgettable.

It provides backstory for some B-list superheroes, whom nobody really cares about anyway, and doesn’t progress the overall franchise narrative one iota.

It also has quite a few script and continuity problems and suffers badly from poor use of ADR, particularly for Tahar Rahim’s villain who is one of the weakest we’ve seen in quite a while.

So why didn’t I hate it?

Well, if you strip away the comic book elements, the first half delivers a fairly intriguing mystery with interesting supernatural elements and a decent central performance from Dakota Johnson.

It goes downhill from there, but no more or less than many other minor comic book films.

It’s better than The Marvels.

Watched at the cinema.
