IT’S not often that you say the best things about an action film don’t include the action.
But that’s the case with the action comedy Boy Kills World.
The debut feature from young German director Moritz Mohr stars Bill Skarsgård as Boy, a deaf mute seeking vengeance for the murders of his family.
Boy lives in a dystopian future ruled by a maniacal and vicious family played by the likes of Famke Janssen and Sharlto Copley.
After his family are killed Boy is left for dead and found by an unnamed Shaman, played by the great martial arts exponent Yayan Ruhian.
Boy is trained by the Shaman to become an incredible fighting machine and guided in his quest for revenge by his inner voice played by comedian H. John Benjamin.
It’s a great voice performance that lifts the film in places where it might otherwise lag and become just another action movie.
The fight scenes are very good, even with the high level of CGI employed, but the story does become a little too convoluted in its final act.
