Damon and Affleck instigate good comedy

The Instigators ★★★½

MATT Damon and Casey Affleck aren’t an obvious comedy duo.

They have separately dabbled in a few past roles, but they are still best known for being dramatic actors.

So, it’s a pleasant surprise to see them being so entertaining in the crime comedy The Instigators.

The pair play a couple of almost down-and-outs recruited for a robbery which goes horribly wrong.

Sounds very familiar I know and there is certainly no attempt to re-invent the wheel here.

But Chuck Maclean’s script is regularly funny and brought to life by a terrific cast that also includes Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Toby Jones and Ron Perlman.

Best of all perhaps is Thai actress Hong Chau playing Affleck’s character’s psychiatrist who winds up trying to treat him while joining them on the run from a range of other criminals.

It’s good fun.
