Borderlands ★★½

ELI Roth’s Borderlands isn’t as bad as many people would have you believe.

I know it could be seen as damning with faint praise, but there are plenty worse sci-fi action comedies around.

Yes, it’s all over the place at times in tone – perhaps too scary for young viewers – and some of the special effects are sadly lacking.

But even though the story is familiar and simple, at least it’s also easy to follow and it’s fun to watch actors like Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart hamming it up in this type of film.

Jack Black has many of the best lines as a robot but inexplicably they give him a very robotic voice which negates the familiar Black delivery.
