It’s not a wonderful film

It’s a Wonderful Knife ★★

THE praise for It’s a Wonderful Knife mystifies me.

The idea of a modern take on the much-loved 1946 Frank Capra film It’s a Wonderful Life is fine – I’m not precious about that.

But in trying to merge horror, comedy and social commentary into a feel-good Christmas tale, this 2023 American effort falls completely flat.

In Capra’s film, a man learns how life in his small town would have turned out had he died, the message being there is good that will be missed in all of us.

In Tyler MacIntyre’s film, a woman learns how life in her small town would have turned out if she hadn’t murdered a serial killer.

There may be an interesting film somewhere in that premise, but I couldn’t find it.

While the film-making is technically okay, the story is not. The comedy is lame, the social commentary is lacklustre and, as for the horror, it’s boring and derivative.

Worst of all, the killer is even more inept than Ghost Face from the Scream films.

Give this one a wide berth.

Watched on Shudder.
