A GIANT zombie kangaroo terrorises a small town.
That’s the premise of the Australian horror film The Red which basically delivers exactly what it says on the can, no more or no less.
There is barely a mention of how the ‘zombification’ occurred or why only this one kangaroo has been affected.
There’s some attempt to make us care about the human characters before they are torn apart, but they pretty much all remain caricatures.
The only other plus is the use of practical effects wherever possible instead of CGI.
But that’s negated by the pratical effects being pretty average.
Who knows why a good actor like Aaron Pederson is involved.
If you’re up for a stupid but fun locally-made film watch The Emu War instead.
Watched on Prime.
