Lifechanger in love

Lifechanger  ★★½

CONTRARY to its title, the low-budget horror film Lifechanger isn’t going to change your life.

What it will do is give you 80-odd minutes of reasonable entertainment.

Writer/director Justin McConnell’s 2018 film is technical proficient but notable more for its story, a variation on the mostly familiar shape-shifter tropes.

In this case the shapeshifter is a bloke named Drew who narrates the film but is never seen in his original form.

For reasons unexplained (as I recall) Drew has become a shape-shifter forced to take on another human form when his current one starts to decay after a few days.

This makes it pretty hard for Drew to reconnect with the love of his life whom he became estranged from just before being subjected to this phenomenon.

So Drew spends his nights in different form trying to establish a connection with Julia at her local pub in the hope that one day he may be able to reveal his true inner-self and they will be reunited in some way.

It may sound a little corny, but it’s all played with straight faces and a decent script that also provides some moments of genuine horror and surprisingly good special effects.
