Infiesto ★★★

INFIESTO is a 2023 Spanish mystery thriller that is most noteworthy for being set in the early Covid outbreak period.

It’s March 2020 and a State of Alarm including a general lockdown has been declared.

In Pilona a missing woman has been found, possibly escaping death at the hands of a killer.

Detectives Jefe and Castro have been assigned to the case but can’t interview the woman because she is in severe shock.

The pair are on their own due to the stretched police resources and are also dealing with their own personal situations involving a sick husband and an isolating mother.

As they delve deeper into the case they realise the situation may be even more complex and darker than first thought.

While Infestio’s story is familiar fare overall, the lockdown provides an interesting backdrop that brings an unique atmosphere to the proceedings.

Isak Férriz and Iria del Río are excellent in the lead roles as two dogged investigators faced with challenges at every turn.
