Lopez says “I do” again

Shotgun Wedding ★★★

I’M NOT sure how many wedding-related films Jennifer Lopez has made; maybe a half dozen?

As its title suggests, the 2023 release Shotgun Wedding is another one.

That title by the way doesn’t mean what you think.

It’s more to do with the weaponry that a bunch of mercenaries are wielding when they crash the ceremony and demand a multi-million dollar payment from the father of the bride or she won’t be seen again.

The problem with that is the bride (Lopez) and her groom, played by Josh Duhamel, are on the run in the surrounding jungle having been missed during the initial round-up of all the guests.

The main running gag in the film is the bungling attempts by the couple to evade capture that actually, sometimes accidentally, result in injury and even death for the mercenaries.

Back in the swimming pool, where the guests are being kept, the supporting cast of people like Sônia Braga, Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravitz and Cheech Marin have a great time hamming it up.

Lopez is as charismatic as always and she and Duhamel have the required chemistry.

It starts to lag a little after an hour or so but, for this type of film, it’s pretty entertaining.
