King adaptation wastes opportunity

Pet Semetary: Bloodlines ★★½

THE makers of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines are a cheeky bunch.

The producer and scriptwriter call it a prequel to the Pet Sematary they made in 2019, ignoring the fact that film was a remake.

They also claim they wanted to delve deeper into the mythology of the story, ignoring the fact that Stephen King’s original novel did exactly that.

The only real way to do anything remotely new would be to go back hundreds of years to present the Native American origins of the cemetery that enables the dead to come back.

But instead Bloodlines sticks to the 1960s to give us a fairly pedestrian back story for the main character.

The best thing about this film is the supporting cast of characters played by the likes of Henry Thomas, Pam Grier and David Duchovny.
