CONTRARY to what you might think, Friday the 13th killer Jason Voorhees did not start his decades-long cinematic reign of terror in the 1980 original film.
Spoiler alert here for a 43-year-old film – Jason’s mum Pamela was the initial villain who tore her way through the counsellors and students at Camp Crystal Lake.
Jason does takes centre-stage starting in the 1981 direct first sequel, Friday the 13th Part 2 with the story picking up five years later with the opening of a new camp nearby.
Before that we do see Alice Hardy, the surviving final girl from Part 1, murdered in her home by an unseen assailant with an icepick.
Once the killing starts, we are off on a familiar path, although some of the scenarios are actually more grisly and effective than the original, tanks to the effects and makeup as well as editing and a good music score.
This entry is also a bit of an outlier with Jason not sporting the hockey mask and even showing us that lovely face.
