Covid-set slasher doesn’t quite cut it

Sick  ★★½

SCREAM writer Kevin Williamson may be behind the 2022 American slasher film Sick, but it doesn’t equal success.

It’s set during the COVID years but for much of the running time you’re wondering why.

We then have a couple of twists that initially seem quite novel. But when things finally become clearer, the twists seem less interesting.

In terms of any scares or tension, the initial sequence suggests good things to come, but ultimately remains probably the best sequence of the entire film.

Certainly, the film is nicely shot and the acting is serviceable.

There are too many moments where characters in peril, or even the killer, make stupid decisions purely in service of continuances in the plot.

Ultimately, it’s a pretty limp attempt to link a horror film to one of the great real horrors in human history.
