IF YOU thought A Quiet Place: Day One was going to bring something knew to this film series you weren’t alone.
But, as usual, we were sucked in by the marketing and the third film basically just repeats similar circumstances to the initial section of the second film, albeit in a city with more people to make noise and be killed as a result.
The original A Quiet Place was one out of the box. It had an engrossing premise, constant tension and good characters with good pacing and well constructed jump scares.
The second film was almost as good. It took us back to day one of the alien invasion for a short period before throwing us back into the ongoing survival of the original characters, barring one.
In isolation, the third film is almost as impressive in its construction, has some strong visuals and features a good key performance from Lapita Nyong’o.
But marketing of the film created an expectation that we would be provided more back story to this saga, in particular how the invasion began and humans learned how to survive.
Just dropping a bunch of aliens from the sky, having them rip people apart and a general realisation that they won’t notice you if you keep quiet, isn’t good enough.
