Heatwave blows cold

Heatwave ★★

WHY do I watch some of this garbage?

Two reasons I guess.

One, in case I come across a hidden gem and two, so you don’t waste your time doing the same thing.

American thriller Heatwave makes little sense and won’t win any acting awards either.

It’s about a woman who has an affair with a stranger who turns out to be her new boss’s wife, leading her into a murder mystery as a key suspect.

It’s set during a heatwave but nobody seems to be sweating, even when they’re having sex.

The lead character hates fire, due to events in her youth, but lives in an apartment with a gas stove-top.

There is no chemistry, and I mean zilch, between the two leads and the coincidences pile up.

The director is one of those types who watched a couple of Hitchcock movies and ever since thinks it’s a good idea to over-telegraph future events through close-ups of implements like an ice pick and a fire extinguisher.

It’s simplistic film-making that doesn’t add up to much at all.
